Solos Review: Anna Hathway, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren Bring A Depressing, Twisted Sci-Fi Anthology At A Sensitive And Incorrect Time

This was not the time, rather, for me, there would be no good time to make a series like Solos. While half the globe is struggling to heal from the pandemic and the other half is still fighting it, this sort of content is the last thing a HUMAN (you would get the reference of the emphasis, if at all you choose to watch this show) would want to consume. And god forbid if you are facing anxiety, stress or depression, kindly refrain from this one.

Solos, directed by Hunters creator, David Weil, takes you to an isolated world of an uncertain future, where 7 characters tell their stories, solo! Is there any dearth of 'isolation' in the current scenario that I would now want to watch a series based on that too?

Out of the 7 stories, I can tell you about 6, because I skipped the 5th one, Jenny, starring Constance Wu as I couldn't sit through her monologue in a maternity waiting area, past 5 mins. Anna Hathway stuck in a time travel mumbo jumbo in Leah, Nicole Bhearie trying to figure out what's wrong with her newborn child in Nera, were the only two stories which somehow had my attention till the end, however, that doesn't change my opinion on the stories being disappointing.

The last story, Stuart, starring the legendary actor Morgan Freeman connects all the 7 stories in a mysterious way (care to find out on your own) but by that time I have reached a point where frankly, I don't care and don't want to know. Sorry, 'God'!

The monotonous story-telling gets on to you and because of a flaky writing, the concept of being SOLO in the frame falls flat. Weil may have been wanting to make something out of the box, but all I wanted to do was stuff this series in a box and throw it in the UNCERTAIN FUTURE!

So, no brownie points to guess, I say Solos is a complete waste of time, energy and at a time where you need positivity around, this will only dampen the spirit, unless you belong to the maniac sci-fi twisted story lover fanclub! For me, it's blahworthy and I'd give it just 1 star.
